Session Journal 2 – March 23, 2022

Duke Ulder Ravenguard

Our heroes arrive in Baldur’s Gate. The City is alive with revelry and commerce as the group sails into the Grey Harbor. Disembarking from the ship and following Ambassador Davarian Rym down the pier, our heroes are introduced to Duke Ulder Ravenguard, commander of the Flaming Fists and Duke Thalamra Vanthampur, two of the rulers of Baldur’s Gate.

After an uncomfortable exchange of words between the two dukes, The Ambassador and Duke Ravenguard climb into a carriage and the heroes, now mounted, form up as guards. Twenty flaming fists, three carriages full of the Ambassador’s staff and our four heroes proceed through the city on the way to the Eldugard consulate. Zook notices a suspiciously cloaked figure.

Less than thirty minutes in Baldur’s Gate and our heroes are attacked. The lead carriage is engulfed in a fireball and gnoll assassins attack from darkened alleyways on the flanks. The four heroes easily fight off the attack and protect the Ambassador and the Duke in the carriage. Charles and Pip take fairly serious wounds but fight on despite the pain.

The four gnoll assassins die to our heroes blades and magic collars that they wear around their necks incinerate their heads upon death. Zook, attempted to remove one collar with a clever spell but failed during the chaotic struggle.

Another gnoll emerges from the smoke, a wizard that throws several deadly spells at Kilterkon. Through luck or divine favor, kilterkon shrugs off the spells. The party concentrates attacks, with Pip, landing a deadye strike to the wizard through impossible cover. At the last moment, Charles removes the gnoll wizard’s collar just before Kiltercon delivers a killing blow. The Gnoll dies, but with the collar removed, its head is not incinerated like the other creatures.
