Session Journal – March 20, 2024
We cut to Xanshi. Lord Baros conspires against her and her father and ultimately betrays and kills her father, the king, and begins to chase Xanshi through the underground of the city. She becomes strong and angry, seeking vengeance and curses her fathers land. Famine, disease and death. Xanshi confronts Baros and kills him with the city dead and rotting around her.
We cut to Susan, standing over the body of the giant Boggart bleeding into the river and staining water streaming towards the Boggarts camp. The two smaller frog men’s bodies are dragged out of the water and set on the edge of the river. In the distance we hear the golden lion roar. We begin heading back to our original camp with our stolen Boggart to “interview” 😉
Back at camp Drydus is helping with defenses and entering the Finna’s dreams making them worship him. He finds Osarn dying in a tent one day and the next he can’t find him anywhere. Drydus approaches Mad Maggie to ask where he is, noticing she visibly hotter than before. She states he returned to Sigil. “He wanted to return to his god. Can you imagine wanting to serve a god, rather than be one.” She’s sitting in the chiefs throne as the chief basically dotes on her, surrounded by her supplicants. He asks where the others are she says we should be returning soon and if we had perished they would know.
Back at the Dragonkin, they’re heading into the small (hundreds) village with their prizes of dinosaur meat and they are with the human Finna “Steve”. It looks to Drax like a shanty town version of their original home, and it seems like they have been here for a while. As they enter the village Zanshi speaks to the others “This is Drax, from the old world!” Zanshi is the leader of the green dragonkin and he and Terresik have adventured together for a while. Zanshi takes them to a large tent with rugs on the floor he is greeted by his wife and children. The walls are covered in feathered dinosaur skins. Zanshi asks Drax “Why have you returned to us now?” Drax explains when he was thrown out by Bad Manadrax he had the shaman (who was Terresik’s teacher) teleport him to Sigil. The other dragonkin were being held by by Manadrax and were unable to grow wings under his influence and since Drax has been out of their world he has begun to grow them and become more dragon-ish.
We are travelling through the woods covering our tracks but we hear Boggarts behind us. We hunker down into the trees and see 5 boggarts, 3 with spears and 2 with bows. They stop and begin to look around about 100 feet from us. Pip draws her bow and Duckfoot scouts around to look for how many more Boggarts there are if we decide to fight these 5. He sees that they are patrolling in small groups with 6 groups total. Orna straps a bomb to one of Pips arrows, she draws back and it flies over the trees and in the distance we hear an explosion. After about 30 seconds we smell smoke, the boggarts begin trotting off towards the smoke. We have Pip drink potion of Pass Without a Trace and we begin to sneak off towards the village and it kind of seems like we got away.
Back at camp Drydus works on fixing the Wand of Cataclysm but it will take about a week, he works on a scroll of healing as well.
Drax works on an alliance between the Finna and the Dragonkin. Zanshi states when they arrived there was war between the two and there is now an unsteady alliance. Drax basically says if the Finna don’t help the dragonkin against Bad Manadrax he will kill them. He rolls diplomacy with the Terresik aiding. Zanshi walks to his children and looks at Drax and says “I will make peace with the monkey men.” Drax basically pledges his total allegiance to his people (over the Finna). The journey from the Dragonkin village to the Finna is about 3 days, Zanshi offers to come or bring 100 warriors. Zanshi decides to send Terresek in his stead with 10 warriors that can go in between the two areas. Drax and Viktor will stay the night and feast with them. Outside the tent all the Dragonkin are waiting in silence. One speaks to Drax and asks “Is it true? Were you the first to escape Bad Mandrax?” He turns and shows his wings to them and they murmur.
We scurry through the forest, days later we emerge out of it at the Finna village that is now very fortified with magic vines. We see the Finna metal working and Mad Maggie meets us looking extremely young. Drydus steps out exhausted holding a scroll he’s been working on. We ask where Osarn is and Drydus explains the situation. I am getting wary of Mad Maggie and I still have the bag with the chain that will connect us to the chain demon in Hell. We head to Drydus new house and take our Boggart captive in. We leave him with Chris to interview.
Why are you here? – Fuck you. We are here to kill the lost tribe, the rebels.
Who is your leader? – General Frog butt, General Frog Pants.
What’s on the ships? – Weapons, the ships brought us here.
Where are you from? – The Everswamp, I want to go back, this place sucks.
I now enter I ask who sent them, Bad Manadrax. What does he want with this place, he sent us to punish the blasphemers. Manadrax is everywhere to them as he is god. The only ones who can speak to him are the great priests (the truth tellers) who are back at their camp. The priests also fly the ships. There are 5 generations. There are 5 truth tellers, they wear fine robes, they are in the center of the camp. They are magic. We have been here for 2 months. Ended up in a plane of death and escaped here.
There is a commotion outside, Drax and the Dragonkin enter the village. The Chief speaks to Viktor and then to Drax who explains they wish to make peace as that is the only way to defeat the Boggarts.
At the end, we meta-game the idea that Drax could possibly convince the Boggarts of the truth about Manadrax and try to get them on our side. Manadrax may possibly exist in physical form or in a way we can kill in the Everswamp.
