Session Journal – May 1, 2024
We talk about how to attack the Boggart camp, Daniel investigates the tree in the center of the lake which is revealed to be the dead remnants of the world tree. We talk about walking around the edge of the lake to another Finna village to recruit for the fight with the Boggart camp. Joel asks an elder about the world tree, they explain that since the tree was burned to a stump that the world ended and this could be the afterlife. Daniel finds a bird with his magic bird ring and speaks to it, asking it to scout above and around the dead corpse of the world tree. It asks “How did you learn to speak Raven?” Daniel explains it’s the ring, the raven wants something in return, Daniel offers food and explains we’re trying to get rid of the Boggarts. This works because the ravens hate the frogmen, then wants to know why we’re curious about the stump. Daniel says he thinks whatever’s there will possibly help. The raven caws and others caw back explaining Boggarts are about 3 miles away and that the stump probably has a cave system underneath and it feels magical. There are 3 groups of 4 Boggarts nearby coming along the river as scouting parties, probably looking for us. While we discuss Jartan approaches to state that where the stump is is where the old gods died and that it is a cursed place. Maggie has taken over the long house that is now filled with people while she essentially builds a cult for herself. Sean asks her about the stump and Maggie reveals a large rotten apple and takes a bite. “A piece of their old world… There is great power there, if you all want to venture there you may find more power than you currently possess. You may also find death… Though our pantheon may need a little pruning.” We decide to head towards the Finna Village near the lakes edge to get to the stump of the world tree. We’re taking the dragonkin warriors with us along with our Finna pal Viktor and then a few more to fight with us and write down our tale. Jartan explains that “THE OUTCAST” would know how to reinvigorate the world tree. The outcast is a Finna with “the old knowledge” living on the stump and who’s family was tasked with keeping the World Tree alive. Jartan states his grandfather saw it burn. Joel asks Jartan when the first time the Boggarts attacked their village, they showed up about a month ago and them specifically 16 days ago. Orna asks Maggie what the apple is, she says it’s her sweet treat that she got as a birthday gift from her sister.
I ask her if she needs anything while we’re out, she essentially tells me she hopes someone will die. She says “Susan I don’t want you to die, take this”; A full suit of blackened chainmail with holes in it, AC of chain and shield. AC +6. It is called the Broken Oath chain.
We enter the second Finna village, we are greeted by the Chieftain Martin. We tell her everything that’s gone down so far, she says they’ve been preparing and we see a bunch of people just sharpening sticks. They see our armor and weapons and we have the Finna we brought with us explain how we’re gods and so cool and stuff. This village is about one days’ travel to the lake. We trade some of the Finna around between the villages to learn how to make stuff. Daniel calls down another Raven who explains that there are no Boggarts near here but a group is building to attack our original village. The ravens are going to fight with us in some capacity. The Boggart scouts have stopped and half of the war camp are coming through the mountain pass and are 4 days from the Finna village. The stump is a day of sailing away and a day back. We talk about sending a runner to the other Finna villages but we decide to send Ravens carrying little notes to all of the Finna Villages to meet at the burned out village in the south east, we also send letters to the dragonkin to come after the boggarts so the army is flanked. Then we (the new gods) head to the stump where the old gods died. We level up to 8.
